On the 11th  of August we had a special night at Mefazec, a private screening  of the documentary, “Between Hope and Pain.” The movie highlights the disappointment of 9 Kuwaiti Olympic athletes who are unable to compete in the Olympics under the Kuwaiti flag due to a ban by the International Olympic Committee. Athlete-Turned-Director Balsam Al-Ayoub and Producer Faisal Al-Duwaisan have worked diligently on this documentary that highlighted the pains of not only these 9 athletes, but a pain that the whole nation shares when there flag won’t be present in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Silence and a few tears were the aftermath of the 40-minute documentary. During Q&A’s a sense of disappointment filled the room.  Ironically 2 hours after the screening, Fehaid Al Dehani, in the midst of all the disappointment and challenges, breezed through the Men’s Double Trap Shooting competition to proudly hold Kuwait’s first Olympic Gold Medal; he received his medal while the Olympic flag rose high.

A special thank you for all you that attended, for all the athletes that continue to shine, for Balsam & Faisal’s beautiful effort, and for Khaleejesque that organized this event and hosted it at Mefazec.
